Nov. 5

Where am I supposed to go?

1. To pursue the Ph.D degree at the Nicolas' lab next year or
2. To try to transfer to another better grad school two year later.

Pros for 1:
  • I can save time to get a Ph.D by applying 1 year earlier than usual.
  • I don't have to wonder about a funding anymore because Nicolas promised a RA position during Ph.D.
  • Machine Learning and computational neuroscience looks so interesting.
  • I can participate a research very soon and may be able to write a paper.
  • Nicolas seems to be VERY nice.
  • Members of lab are also nice.

Cons against 1:

  • USC doesn't rank high in computer science or neuroscience.
  • In Korea, it is not easy to get a job in neuroscience.

Hmm, it would be better for me to accept the suggestion.

OK, go!

Oct 28

I was preparing an exam in the next morning.
But now, I cannot concentrate on the study without any reason.
It seems for me to need some break before continuing the study. :)

I've been in LA for 2 months.
When I arrived here on August 10, I felt very nervous and wondered whether I could do well.
After a few days, I was embarrassed by my poor English.
Everytime I tried to talk with a professor, I always failed to deliver what I want to say.
As time goes by, however, I found that I was pretty good at classes and it made me feel better.

It might be successful.
Good luck to me. :)

No Title

Now, I am sitting on a chair at my laboratory.
I get somewhat frustrated and nervous.
I don't know what drives me into these kinds of moods.
Whatever I feel, time always goes on and I have work to finish.
That's too bad.
It's sad but true. :(

Today's Song: Fairy Tale sung by Toni Braxton

TONI BRAXTON LYRICS

"Fairy Tale"

And if I was wrong, I know I don't deserve this
Don't stay too long,
I need to hear those words you use to tell me
From way back when we were just friends
Before this love affair began

Tell me how I love you wins
Or how a broken heart can mend
Just tell me this is not the end
Please tell me now
How the fairy tale begins
Or how it was supposed to end
Please tell me that part again

[Ad libs]

Now tell me what's wring
I never meant to hurt you, no baby, ooh
Was it the home, the car,
Or darling all those things we thought we needed
Tell me even if it ain't true
But baby please don't say we're through

Tell me how I love you wins
Or how a broken heart can mend
Just tell me this is not the end
Please tell me now
How the fairy tale begins
Or how it was supposed to end
Please tell me that part again

[Ad libs]

I wanna know that
Feelin' that's from way back
A time when it was true that
Love was sweet and innocent
When you and I could still be friends
Make all the wrong be right again
Where true love never has to end
[Ad libs]

Tell me how I love you wins
Or how a broken heart can mend
Just tell me this is not the end
Please tell me now
How the fairy tale begins
Or how it was supposed to end
Please tell me that part again
[Ad lib]

English Expressions: Health Matters

You need to work out at the gym by taking a dance class. (by either jogging or swimming)
I have never been self-motivated when it comes to exercise.
It takes me about twenty minutes to warm up before doing physical exercise.
You're totally out of shape. You need to work out to stay in shape.
I am trying to build up my shoulders.
If you want to slim down, you should go on a diet.
Wow! Look at you! You have a potbelly. You look like you're pregnant.
Although she's put on a lot weight since she quit smoking, she is still skinny.
You look very healthy even until yesterday.
I really feel out of it today. I'm feeling pretty rough. I'm feeling under the weather.

Depressed days

I think that I am a very optimistic and confident. But, nowadays, I am losing my confidence to myself.
Last night, I was informed that I failed to get a fund from Korea Research Foundations. And when I checked the result of a placement exam for English conversation classes, I found my degree fallen down, from level 3 to level 4. :( Besides all these things, I am in a trouble to procede my project at a laboratory. Sigh...
Give me strengh!!!

Modular Software Radio

I dicide to change a test software for experiments of Jaesoo's RTCSA paper from SPUX to SRadio.
SPUX also seems to be great. But it doesn't provide enough manuals to understand and use it. In the other hands, SRadio provides lots of documents such as how-tos, tips&tricks and reference manuals. In addition to, it also provides simulation mode which I exactly have been looking for. :)
I have already spent too many hours finding a test software, therefore I should proceed to do this experiment quickly.
Here is a schedule for the experiment:

06/01(Wed) - examining the codes of SRadio and building signal process blocks to test
06/02(Thr) - writing interface codes for each block and writing a TCP/IP test program
06/03(Fri) - writing a CORBA test program
06/04(Sat) - writing a RT-CORBA test program
